The Southern rock musical genre has been around for quite some time now, and there have been many great artists throughout the years. If you have a strong love for southern rock like so many others, you will definitely want to know about these legendary musicians.

Charlie Daniels Band

The Charlie Daniels Band has been around since the late 80s, and they are a classic act to say the least. His hit song “Do it again Georgia” is a classic example of quality southern rock, and it still holds up very well to this day. This band also performed “The Devil Went Down to Georgia,” which almost everyone knows. Overall, the Charlie Daniels Band is a great group of southern rock musicians that were around from very early on.

Lynyrd Skynyrd

There is no question that Lynryd Skynyrd is one of the most revered southern rock musicians of all time, and his reputation has continued strong throughout the decades since he first started. While a tragic plane crash put the band on hiatus for ten years, they ended up coming back and reuniting eventually. The band’s hit song “Sweet Home Alabama” is one of the most classic pieces of southern rock to date. The band is still active, though many of the members have sadly passed away.

ZZ Top

The southern hard rock trio of musicians collectively known as ZZ Top has dominated the genre for 45 years now. With Billy Gibbons playing lead guitar, Dusty Hill on the bass and Frank Beard on the drums, every show is a spectacular experience. Those who love southern rock must acknowledge this group of musicians as one of the best and most inspirational.

Blackberry Smoke

Blackberry Smoke is one of the best modern southern rock bands, and they are definitely worth checking out if you don’t already know about them. Formed in 2000, this band has put out a number of studio albums with a sound that isn’t quite like anything you have ever heard before. They have performed at many different venues as headliners and supporting acts for classic bands like ZZ Top and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Alabama Shakes

Alabama Shakes has been active since 2009, and as a pretty new southern rock band they are pretty talented and popular within the genre. This band has only released two studio albums so far, with their last one in 2015, but they already have quite the reputation. This band was clearly influenced by a lot of mid-20th century rhythm and blues artists, and the vocals come close to Janis Joplin at times. All in all, Alabama Shakes is a group of extremely talented musicians.
